Executive Director

Habitat for Humanity of Kenosha, Inc. (Habitat) was established in 2012 as a non-profit organization partnering with families in need to provide simple, decent and affordable housing solutions through our home ownership program and future neighborhood revitalization initiatives.  Each family partners with Habitat by completing our homeowner education program, working side-by-side with volunteers during their home’s construction, and paying a no-interest mortgage which is reinvested into the organization to serve even more families.

The Executive Director works with the Board of Directors to develop a vision and strategic goals for Habitat.  The Executive Director leads the organization in achieving its goals by developing and implementing strategic and operational plans, and integrating the work of committees, staff and volunteers into a coherent, consistent and effective program of advocacy, construction, financing and family support resulting in successful home ownership for participant families.

overall responsibilities

  • Accept and support the covenant of HFHI
  • Ensure strategic growth through planning, goal development and by monitoring trends and opportunities
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State and Local laws
  • Provide overall executive leadership of the affiliate in accordance with the Articles of Incorporation, affiliate by-laws, policies, objectives and direction set by the affiliate Board of Directors
  • Serve as the primary public spokesperson for the affiliate
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with Habitat families, donors, volunteers, public officials and supporters

major duties/responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain revenue channels including but not limited to grant writing, donor relationships and fundraising
  • Manage and facilitate the overall efforts of all operations committees including recruiting chairs for committees
  • Manage all construction personnel to ensure each home is built efficiently and in accordance with the budget.
  • Provide input and oversight to affiliate budget and audit
  • Accept chief administrative responsibility for public accountability of the affiliate
  • Attend all meetings of the Board of Directors and present a written report at each meeting concerning the activities of the affiliate
  • Attend committee meetings as needed, and review agendas and reports from meetings
  • Handle legal matters involving Habitat for Humanity in a timely manner and with legal resources as needed
  • Maintain a basic relationship with Partner Families from candidate stage through closing and beyond
  • Ensure and oversee all Habitat representation within the community.
  • Approve all written communications prior to public release and serve as HFHLC’s official spokesperson
  • Primary communication with the Habitat for Humanity regional and international office

requirements and skills

    • Ability to manage people and projects
    • Good interpersonal skills including ability to facilitate and build diverse teams
    • Ability to plan, organize and delegate
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to use the computer for word processing, database and publishing
    • A deep understanding of affordable housing issues and ability to work with the key stakeholders in local communities, corporations and government
    • The ability to create constructive partnerships through consensus building
    • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, financial management and program development
    • Successful experience managing staff and volunteers
    • Bachelor’s Degree in human service related field and/or a combination of experience and education preferred
    • Minimum three years’ experience working for a non-profit in a leadership capacity preferred
    • Must pass a background check
